Introduction

Yellow-SiC is building early-stage prototyping and testing capabilities around 3C-SiC-based photocatalysis and photoelectrochemistry. After demonstrating our proof of concept at the lab scale, we are now looking to translate that success into a commercially viable module. We are looking for a hands-on R&D Lab Technician - Photocatalysis/PEC Testing who can help establish reliable experimental routines, run day-to-day tests, and turn a developing lab workflow into stable, repeatable operation. The role is execution-focused. You will work closely with other engineers and scientists to ensure that experiments are run cleanly, documented properly, and translated into usable benchmark data for technical decisions.

What You Will Do

  • run day-to-day PEC and photocatalysis experiments
  • prepare samples, test articles, and measurement logs
  • maintain setup readiness, calibration status, consumables, and basic equipment upkeep
  • follow and improve SOPs, checklists, and reporting templates
  • document results clearly and flag inconsistencies quickly
  • support experiment planning together with the Team Lead
  • help stabilize new test setups during shakedown and early operation
  • support automation handoff by documenting workflow steps, pain points, and instrumentation needs

Profile

  • background in materials science, electrochemistry, photocatalysis, or similar fields in physics and chemistry
  • hands-on experience with experimental lab workflows
  • strong discipline in test execution, repeatability, and documentation
  • experience with lab instruments, setup troubleshooting, and calibration
  • a practical, safety-conscious way of working
  • comfort working with semi-automated test setups involving liquids, gas-handling, light-source control, etc.
  • ability to learn new procedures quickly and run them consistently
  • clear written documentation habits
  • team-oriented, reliable, and comfortable in a startup environment
  • good German and English communication skills

Nice to have:

  • experience with reactors or gas analysis workflows
  • experience with sample preparation and handling
  • familiarity with digital lab records, structured reporting, or automation-oriented workflows
  • experience supporting R&D teams where setups are still evolving

What We Offer

  • a hands-on role with visible impact on the emerging technology of solar water splitting
  • development opportunities in a young, fast-growing company
  • room to take ownership in an environment where initiative is encouraged and rewarded
  • stimulating and rewarding work at the overlap of applied science, engineering and data
  • close collaboration across materials, testing, and engineering, with fast feedback between design and experiment
  • short decision paths and visible contribution to real product and prototype progress
  • office drinks and snacks
  • job ticket for commuting to our office in Adlershof
  • regular company events

Company Information

Yellow-SiC is a Berlin-based deep-tech company group focused on ultra-clean cubic silicon carbide (3C-SiC) for photocatalysis, energy storage and semiconductor applications. Our work brings together materials science, chemistry, and applied engineering to turn strong technical foundations into robust products and scalable technologies. We are at a stage where there is already real technical substance, but many important decisions are still open enough to be shaped by the people joining now. For candidates who want to work close to the technology itself and help build something with practical relevance, Yellow-SiC offers a compelling setting to explore further. For questions regarding the position, please reach out to bors@yellow-sic.com.
